Saturday, the Muskies completed a long homestand by sweeping a doubleheader over Milwaukee School of Engineering 3-1 and 4-2. The pair of wins brought the Muskies back to .500 in the conference with a 2-2 record.

In the first game, Muskie freshmen pitcher Rachel Griesbach allowed only five hits, struck out four and walked one.

The Muskies starting the scoring by putting up a run in the fourth when Kourtney Peters doubled, scoring Monica Hetzel. The Raiders responded with a run on a Muskie error to tie the game in the fifth. Lakeland rallied with three straight hits, including a double by Katie Yeager that scored Valerie Barlett and Elisa Waltz, putting the Muskies ahead for good 3-1.

“We really needed those two runs to help Rachel out. She really bore down and prevented the Raiders from coming back,” said Lakeland Coach Chad Buchmann.

Barlett finished the game 2-3 with a run scored and Yeager was 2-3. Four other Muskies had base hits in the game.

The Muskies (7-11) travel to Watertown on Tuesday to play Maranatha Baptist Bible College at 3:00 p.m.
