Athletics - posted on 4/9/2007

The Lakeland College softball team continues to prove their strength in the Northern Athletics Conference this season, sweeping Edgewood in a doubleheader, 8-0, 4-2, on Monday, Apr. 9, at Lakeland.

The Muskies (13-5, 6-0 NAC) pushed their win streak to eight games as freshman Sara Roberts continued to dominate on the mound. Roberts (9-3) threw a no-hitter in five innings in the first game, tallying four strikeouts and only one walk, then picked up the win in the second game.

Junior first baseman Allison Lock also made crucial contributions in both games at the plate, going a perfect 3-3 in the first game with two doubles, two RBI's and one run scored, then blasting a two-run home run in the second inning of game two to give the Muskies the advantage.

Junior right fielder Rebecca Schuettpelz also hit solidly in the first game, going 2-3 at bat with one double and one RBI to her credit. Junior third baseman Kourtney Peters was steady at bat in the second game, going 2-3 and scoring one run.

The Muskies will look to push their NAC win streak to eight games with tomorrow's home doubleheader with Wisconsin Lutheran. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
