Men's Soccer Falls to Vikings
Athletics - posted on 9/9/2007
The Lakeland College men's soccer team continues to look for its first victory of the season after dropping a non-conference contest with Lawrence University, 5-1, on Sunday, Sept. 9, in Appleton, Wis.
The Muskies (0-3) endured a brutal assault by Lawrence's offensive line that pounded Lakeland's defense and freshman goalkeeper Brock Winkler with 20 shot attempts. Three of those shot attempts found the back of the net to put the Vikings up, 3-0, at half.
The Muskies put up with two more Lawrence goals in the second half before sophomore midfielder Ryan Malo got the squad on the board with a goal in the 85th minute, assisted by freshman defender Ben Wempner, for the final score of the game.
Winkler tallied five saves in the game, while Malo and junior midfielders Kevin Fitchett and Carroll Devlin led the squad with three shots apiece.
Lakeland will play one more non-conference game before delving into its Northern Athletics Conference schedule, as the squad will face Ripon College on Tuesday, Sept. 11. Game time is set for 4 p.m. in Ripon, Wis.
