The Lakeland men's soccer team dropped their fifth game of the season to Northern Athletics Conference foe Concordia University-Chicago 3-1 in their home opener on Saturday.
"We're playing with the right intensity and how I want them to be playing," said head coach Dave Madsen. "We are creating chances, but the second we lose focus, the opponent is taking advantage of us and scoring."
Despite outshooting the Cougars (1-5-1, 1-0 NAC) 6-to-16, the Muskies (0-5, 0-1 NAC) were unable to take advantage of the numerous scoring opportunities.
The Cougars got on the board 13 minutes into the contest to take the early lead. The Cougars scored again 10 minutes into the second half on a penalty kick and again just four minutes later to go up 3-0. The Muskies lone goal came with just about six minutes left in the contest on a goal by junior Kevin Fitchett on a pass from sophomore Ryan Malo.
"We always seem to be playing catch-up," said Madsen. "If we could get the first two goals we could begin to dictate the play of the game."
The Muskies will look to avenge the tough loss tomorrow when they play against UW-Whitewater in another home contest. Game time is set for 1:30 p.m.
