Men's Soccer's Best Efforts Fall Short Against Stars

Athletics - posted on 9/22/2007

The Lakeland College men's soccer team dropped to 0-2 in the Northern Athletics Conference following a 5-0 shutout loss to Dominican University on Saturday, Sept. 22, at Lakeland.

Despite the end result, the Muskies (0-7 overall) took steps in the right direction in terms of team chemistry, communication and effort, as they prevented the Stars from finding the back of the net for the first time until the 32nd minute.

"I'm very pleased with our guys," Madsen said. "We came in with a good level of concentration, our organization in the back was excellent and we were able to frustrate Dominican for long periods of time.

"I told the guys that if they were going to beat us, we should make them beat us with their best effort, not on free kicks, corner kicks and transition opportunities. We had a few miscues, but overall the intensity level was good. We came in and took the game by the scruff of the neck and didn't worry about who we were playing."

The Muskies will look to improve their offensive efforts in future contests, as the squad came up empty on all seven of its shot attempts.

The squad will continue NAC play with Concordia University Wisconsin on Tuesday, Sept. 25.

"Concordia will be a challenging team with a lot of spirit," Madsen said. "It will be interesting to see how we match up against them because if we bring our intensity and focus for the entire game, we can compete with anybody."

Game time with Concordia, Wis., is set for 4 p.m. in Mequon, Wis.
