Men's Soccer Slips to 0-4 in NAC
Athletics - posted on 10/4/2007
The Lakeland College men's soccer team fell to 0-4 in the Northern Athletics Conference following a 4-1 loss to Maranatha Baptist Bible College on Thursday, Oct. 4, in Watertown, Wis.
Although the Muskies (0-9 overall) scored the first goal of the game on a shot by sophomore forward Ryan Malo from junior midfielder Kevin Fitchett at the 23 minute mark, the Crusaders' Brett Hollenbeck helped his team rally with four unanswered goals to take the game.
"He was just in the right place at the right time," said head coach Dave Madsen of Hollenbeck. "We also had trouble with a combination of other things and didn't react well to them."
Although Lakeland and Maranatha were tied, 1-1, at half following Maranatha's first goal off a free kick after a Lakeland foul, the Crusaders came out firing in the second half to launch 14 shot attempts to the Muskies' six.
"We just couldn't get a bounce," Madsen said. "It's frustrating because the guys were working so hard and kicking and scratching the whole way through, but we couldn't find our finishing touch."
The Muskies will look to regain some confidence as they continue NAC play with Wisconsin Lutheran on Saturday, Oct. 6.
"They should give us a strong challenge," Madsen said of Wisconsin Lutheran. "We have to approach things the right way mentally. We came up short today, but fought all the way through, so I hope we can bring that kind of mentality on Saturday."
Game time with Wisconsin Lutheran is set for 3:30 p.m. at Muskie Field.
