Muskies Fall to Warhawks

The Lakeland College women's soccer team dropped a rough non-conference game to UW-Whitewater, 6-0, on Sunday, Sept. 16, in Sheboygan, Wis.

The Muskies (1-6) were unable to get their offensive attack going throughout the game, as they were out-shot by the Warhawks' offensive line, 18-4, with 11 of those shots coming in the first half.
"Whitewater is a good team and gave us a good challenge," said head coach Dave Madsen. "In a way, this helps us because it shows us that we need to be very proactive and urgent in our thinking. I think we started to see things today later on in the game, and started to figure out that by moving into spaces early and moving the ball around more we could have created some more chances to score.

"Some of the goals I was a little bit frustrated with because we weren't getting pressure on the ball where we needed to. They got some good chances on goal and created some difficult situations, we just needed to recognize them sooner."

Whitewater scored four of its goals in the first half on senior goalkeeper Savannah Johnson, who tallied three saves, but got only two against freshman keeper Whitney England, who came in for the second half to snag five saves.

"I don't tend to switch goalkeepers in the middle of the game, but she came out with a lot of authority," Madsen said. "It was good to see she was making strong decisions and coming away with success. She had a good second half."

The Muskies will be back in action on Thursday, Sept. 20, for a non-conference game at St. Norbert College.

"St. Norbert will be pretty challenging, but I'm interested to see how we do against them," Madsen said. "I think it will depend on how we show up that day. If we come out and are confident we play the way we need to play, but that has been a challenge for us this year."

Game time with St. Norbert is set for 4 p.m. in De Pere, Wis.
