Women's Soccer Stuns Raiders for Second Consecutive NAC Win

The Lakeland College women's soccer team improved to 4-3 in the Northern Athletics Conference with a big win over Milwaukee School of Engineering, 2-1, on Wednesday night in Milwaukee, Wis.

The Muskies (5-9 overall) came out firing from the start, racking up both of their goals in the first half to take the early lead.

"It was an excellent effort," said head coach Dave Madsen. "We finally put in a strong effort right from the beginning of the game, which is what I have wanted to see all season."

Senior defender Elisa Waltz knocked in the Muskies' first goal, and also her first collegiate goal, in the 29th minute, while junior defender Jacqui Drexler split the Raider's defense for the squad's second goal just before halftime.

"I've been putting Elisa up at forward to give us a different look there, Madsen said. "She was constantly frustrating their defense, and was able to get a good look to score."

Senior goalkeeper Savannah Johnson also had a solid game, snagging six saves and refusing to let MSOE find the back of the net until one snuck through in the waning minutes of the game.

"She did a good job of reading things early, which was helpful for our defense," Madsen said of Johnson. "They knew she was there backing them up and helping them see dangerous situations before they happened."

The Muskies will continue to move forward with NAC play, facing Alverno College on Saturday, Oct. 13, at Lakeland.

"We're on a good run right now, and I hope we can keep that same focus we showed tonight," Madsen said. "We need to keep climbing that ladder in the conference rankings to try to get a shot at hosting the first round of the NAC Tournament."

Game time with Alverno is set for 1 p.m. at Muskie Field.
