The Lakeland softball team continued to dominate the Northern Athletics Conference with a pair of commanding victories over Alverno, 10-2, 15-2, on Friday, Apr. 20, in Milwaukee.

The Muskies (22-6, 15-1 NAC) ended both games in five innings, as freshmen Sara Roberts and Cassie Felton each went the distance on the mound in the first and second games respectively.

Lakeland got its successful day on offense started early in the first game, scoring two runs at the top of the first inning off of two hits. In the third inning, the Muskies tore open the game with two home runs and five runs scored in the inning. After freshman centerfielder Chelsea Coenen and junior shortstop Elisa Waltz got on base, junior third baseman Kourtney Peters ripped the first home run of the inning for three RBIs. Junior left fielder Sonja Barone promptly answered with a double, then was sent home by the squad's second home run of the inning hit by junior first baseman Allison Lock.

Lock went on to tally another home run for three RBIs in the fifth inning, as the Muskies capped off their scoring with three more runs.

Several Muskies experienced success at the plate, as Peters, Lock, Barone and junior designated hitter Jesse Van Camp each had two hits on three at-bats, with Lock tallying a team-leading five RBIs.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Peters got the scoring started with a bang, cracking her first grand slam of the season and batting in Waltz, Blahnik and junior right fielder Rebecca Schuettpelz. The Muskies continued to gain the upper hand on offense in the second and third innings, scoring three more runs in each inning. Blahnik helped seal the game for her team in the fourth inning with a two-RBI triple as the Muskies tallied five runs total for the inning.

Blahnik and Schuettpelz were perfect at bat for the game, as Blahnik had three hits and four RBIs while Schuettpelz tallied two hits.

Lakeland will continue NAC play with a doubleheader against Benedictine on Saturday, Apr. 21, at home. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
