The Lakeland College women's tennis team played its best in Northern Athletics Conference play with Rockford College, though it wasn't enough to win the match, and the result was a score of 6-1.
In the singles competition, there was a win for Lakeland in Sakie Matsubara's No. 1 match against Rockford's Emilia Sawras, with scores of 7-6, 6-2. Deondrea Warren was defeated in the No. 2 match by Rockford's Jessica Starr with scores of 6-1, 6-2. In the No. 3 match, Anna Jacobs of Rockford beat Jacquelyn Love with scores of 6-0, 6-0. In the No. 4 match, Rockford's Jessica Roskens beat Erika Brown with scores of 6-1, 6-0. Rockford's Tina Biondo won the No. 5 match by forfeit.
In the doubles competition, it was a fairly close No. 1 match, though Sakie Matsubara and Deondrea Warren lost to Rockford's Emilia Sawras and Jessica Starr with a score of 8-4. Rockford's Tina Biondo and Anna Jacobs won their No. 2 match against Jacquelyn Love and Erika Brown with a score of 8-0.
Muskies will continue match play against non-conference Ripon College on Sep. 18. Match time is set for 4 p.m. in Ripon, Wis.
