The Lakeland College women's tennis team capped off its season at the Northern Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 6, in Madison, Wis. Although they were unable to win a match, they stayed strong throughout the competition.
In the No. 1 doubles competition, Saki Matsubara and Maria Tess lost in the first round to Aurora University's Siri Nelson and Jalitza Colon with a score of 8-2. In the consolation quarterfinals, the pair lost to Dominican University's Eileen Shanahan and Bozana Durman, with a score of 8-1.
In the No. 2 doubles competition, Aurora University's Raquel Schmitz and Erin Anthony defeated Erica Brown and Jacquelyn Love in the first round with a score of 8-0. In the consolation quarterfinals, Brown and Love lost to Hannah Tullberg and Tanya Droster of Wisconsin Lutheran College, with a score of 8-0.
In the No. 1 singles competition, Saki Matsubara barely lost in the first round to Concordia University Chicago's Colleen Mullaney, with scores of 6-3, 6-4. Matsubara was defeated in the consolation quarterfinals by Wisconsin Lutheran's Kara Spiegelhoff, with a score of 8-3.
In the No. 2 singles competition, Maria Tess lost in the first round to MSOE's Sophie Janto, with scores of 6-1, 6-2. In the consolation quarterfinals, Tess lost to Concordia University Chicago's Stacey Raymond with a score of 8-1.
In the No. 3 singles competition, Jalitza Colon of Aurora defeated Erica Brown in the first round, with a score of 6-0, 6-1. In the consolation quarterfinals, Brown lost to Concordia University Chicago's Nicole Erickson, with a score of 8-0.
In the No. 4 singles competition, Jacqueline Love lost in the first round to Andrea Oliva of Benedictine University, with scores of 6-0, 6-0. In the consolation quarterfinals, Hannah Tullberg of Wisconsin Lutheran defeated Love, with a score of 8-0.
