Women's Volleyball Falls to Oshkosh, Platteville
Athletics - posted on 9/1/2007
The Lakeland College women's volleyball team slipped to 1-3 on the season following a pair of losses on Saturday, Sept. 1, to UW-Oshkosh and UW-Platteville.
The Muskies put up a pair of hard fights in match play with Elmhurst and Coe on Friday, defeating Elmhurst in four games and dropping a tough match with Coe in five games.
"The level we were able to come out with on Friday pleasantly surprised me," said head coach Chad Schreiber. "It was a complete team effort and I knew we could play to that level, but I didn't expect it from the opening match. If we could have kept our serve receive in check against Coe, we could have won that match because our teams were so evenly-matched."
However, the squad was unable to sustain that effort on Saturday, losing to Oshkosh 30-24, 30-20, 30-14 and Platteville 30-20, 30-25, 30-26.
"We couldn't find our groove against Oshkosh," Schreiber said. "Platteville was a back-and-forth match that was either team's to win.
"Everything we worried about being our weaknesses did not end up being our weaknesses, there were other things that brought us down. We need to go back and work on our strengths and make them our strengths again."
The Muskies will continue match play with their Northern Athletics Conference season opener against Edgewood on Tuesday, Sept. 11. Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Lakeland's Moose and Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.
