The Lakeland College softball team wrapped up its spring break tournament in Tucson, Arizona with a pair of losses to UW-Eau Claire, 9-1, and North Central College (Ill.), 12-1, on Wednesday, March 19.
Sophomore pitcher Cassie Felton suffered the loss against UW-Eau Claire with fellow sophomore Sara Roberts and freshman Kayla VandeWettering pitching relief. VandeWettering got the start on the mound for the loss to North Central with Felton pitching relief.
At the conclusion of the tournament, the Muskies slip to 1-7 overall with their solo win of the week coming against Amhurst College (Mass.), 5-1. However, head coach Chad Buchmann is optimistic of his team's ability to turn things around.
"We're a better-disciplined team than we showed," Buchmann said. "We need to be more consistent, and we were having trouble putting more than two hits together. For the most part, we had some people step up so I think we will be all right once we get back."
Lakeland will continue its season by diving into its Northern Athletics Conference schedule, beginning with Edgewood College on Wednesday, March 26. Game time is set for 3 p.m. at home, pending field conditions.
