Men's Volleyball's Win Streak Ends at 10 with First Loss of Season to UW-Oshkosh

The Lakeland College men's volleyball team compiled a 5-1 record at the Midwest 10 Tournament held on Saturday, Feb. 9, at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Ill.

Although the Muskies (10-1 overall) have remained unbeaten since the season began, the squad picked up its first match loss of the season in the final match of the tournament, 2-0 (25-20, 25-17), falling to UW-Oshkosh, who won the Division I national title over Lakeland last year.

However, the squad was able to down Wisconsin Volleyball Conference foe Marquette, 2-0 (25-19, 25-23) as well as perennially strong teams such as Notre Dame, 2-0 (25-21, 25-16), and tournament host Northern Illinois University, 2-0 (25-20, 25-15). The Muskies also tallied commanding victories over Illinois State, 2-0 (25-18, 25-19), and Ball State, 2-0 (25-23, 25-16).

Junior outside hitter Joe Julkowski led Lakeland's offensive drive for much of the tournament, tallying a team tournament-high 11 kills against Illinois State while also recording eight kills against UW-Oshkosh and seven kills against Ball State.

Senior middle hitter Jared Rohland also contributed at the net, compiling 18 kills, nine digs and seven blocks in the first three matches of the day. Junior setter Matt Clemens also had a solid tournament highlighted by a performance of 22 assists, three digs and three blocks against Ball State.

The Muskies will have another shot at UW-Oshkosh on Monday, Feb. 11, as they face the Titans in WVC action to determine who will remain undefeated in conference play. Match time is set for 8 p.m. in Oshkosh, Wis.
