Muskies' Bats Click vs. Cardinal Stritch

The Lakeland College baseball team recorded a pair of non-conference wins over Cardinal Stritch University, 5-1 and 7-2, on Wednesday, April 9, at home.

Junior Mike Phillips was the winning pitcher in game one, throwing just over six innings while giving up five hits and five walks with two strikeouts. Freshman Mike Ruzek picked up the win in game two with an impressive outing, giving up just one hit and fanning seven. Senior Adam Hablewitz was the starter in game two, pitching three innings, while sophomore Tyler Villiard came in to close the door in the final inning.

The Muskies (7-11 overall) managed to shut out Stritch until the final inning of the first game. Hablewitz and freshman Ryan Polizzi led the home team at the plate with two hits apiece, with Hablewitz hitting a pair of doubles.

Lakeland continued to pour on the offense in the second game with 11 hits total, and broke out to a 4-1 advantage by the end of the third inning with three more runs in the sixth inning to develop a comfortable lead. Freshman Roberto Flores went a perfect 3-3 at the plate with three runs scored followed by junior Alex Grant and freshman Doug Novak with two hits apiece.

The Muskies will look to continue their win streak with a Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader at Rockford College on Saturday, April 12. Game start time is set for 1 p.m. in Rockford, Ill.
