Baseball Falls to Redhawks

Athletics - posted on 4/18/2008

The Lakeland College baseball team struggled through its non-conference doubleheader with Ripon College, resulting in a pair of shutouts, 5-0 and 19-0, in favor of the Redhawks on Friday, April 18, at Lakeland.

Errors proved to be the Achilles heel for the Muskies (8-15 overall), as they tallied eight for the day with six coming in the second game.

Freshman Matt Katzman suffered the loss on the mound in game one, throwing just over six innings and giving up 10 hits and four walks before being relieved by senior Nate Brusewitz for the remainder of the seventh inning. Sophomore Tony DeMuth picked up the loss in the second game, allowing eight hits and eight runs.

The Muskies struggled offense, leaving 11 stranded on base for the day with just two hits in the second game.  Freshman Ed Kozlowski led the team at the plate with a 2-3 effort in the first game.

Lakeland will look to get back on track as it resumes Northern Athletics Conference play with a home doubleheader against Aurora University tomorrow. Game start time is set for 12 p.m.
