Athletics - posted on 4/20/2008
The Lakeland College baseball team had a rough day on the road against Concordia University Chicago, dropping both games of its Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader, 12-2 and 7-4, on Sunday, April 20, in River Forest, Ill.
After the first game was run-ruled after just seven innings, the Muskies (8-19) rallied somewhat in the second game to take a 4-3 lead over the Cougars at the top of the seventh inning. However, Concordia responded with one of its biggest offensive outputs of the day with four runs scored off of three hits for the final runs of the game.
Junior Jake Van Camp suffered the loss on the mound in the first game, giving up 11 hits in six innings. Freshman Mike Ruzek took the loss in game two, forfeiting eight hits with five walks.
Freshman Andrew Schartner and junior Alex Grant led the team at the plate in the first game, with Grant registering a perfect 2-2 effort while Schartner was 2-3. Junior Adam Brown also contributed, knocking in the Muskies' only two runs in the first game off a single in the third inning.
