The Lakeland College softball team saw its five-game win streak come to an end on Monday as it lost a pair of Northern Athletics Conference contests to Aurora University, 11-0 and 6-3, at home.
Sophomore Cassie Felton took the loss in the circle in the first game, giving up 12 hits with three strikeouts. Fellow sophomore Sara Roberts was tagged with the loss in game two, allowing 10 hits and three walks with three strikeouts.
Although the Muskies (15-13, 14-6 NAC) had been able to rely on the power of their hitting in the past few games, that was not the case against Aurora. The squad was shut out in the first game after managing just three hits off Aurora's tough pitcher, Anna Snyder, who recorded 15 strikeouts on the Muskies.
Lakeland found a few gaps in the second game for three hits and three runs off Nicole Capone before Snyder re-entered the game in the third inning to put the clamps back on the Muskies. Those three runs scored in the third inning tied up the game, but the Spartans tallied three more unanswered runs to take the game.
Freshman left fielder Sam Shepeck hit for power with a double in the second game while senior first baseman Allison Lock tallied a two RBI single in the third inning of the same game. Also, a stolen base by senior short stop Elisa Waltz in the first game dubbed her the all-time leader in career stolen bases, as she is a perfect 12-12 this year with a career total of 40 to date.
The Muskies will look to start a new win streak with a NAC doubleheader against Wisconsin Lutheran College on Wednesday, April 23. Game start time is set for 3 p.m. in Milwaukee, Wis.
