Muskies continue winning ways against MacMurray

Autumn Gaylor stayed hot Friday afternoon, dropping 17 points and grabbing 8 rebounds in the Muskies' 69-61 victory over MacMurray in the first round of the North Park Tournament in Chicago, Ill.

With the victory, the Muskies (7-2, 4-0 NAC) move into the championship game against tournament host North Park at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Trailing by a small margin a majority of the first half, Lakeland took its second and final lead of the day under four minutes in the first on a Mary Dennewitz (Chicago, Ill.) 3-pointer. The Muskies took a 32-28 advantage into halftime.

Lakeland stretched out its lead in the first eight minutes of the second half to 11 and pushed the advantage to 12 before sealing the eight point victory.

Gaylor (Ingleside, Ill.) continued her impressive run. The freshman center has scored 16, 14, and 17 points in her last three games. She shot 6-of-7 in the second half, scoring 12 points and collecting 5 rebounds.

Dennewitz, KC Blahnik (Gladstone, Mich.) and Katie Kilton (Waukesha) also reached double figures, scoring 12, 11 and 10 points, respectively, as Lakeland shot 44 percent from the field as a team and held MacMurray to 34 percent for the day.

The Muskies dominated the Highlanders on the boards, grabbing a season-high 48 and holding MacMurray to 33. Blahnik, Gaylor and Becca Paulson (Clayton) all nabbed eight rebounds on the night.
