Lakeland shut out by Pioneers 3-0

Athletics - posted on 8/29/2008

The Lakeland men's soccer team was unable to find the back of the net and were defeated 3-0 by Northland Baptist Bible College in a non-conference contest at Dunbar, Wis.

The Muskies (0-1) came out flat but still were able to keep the score knotted at 0-0 to end the first half.

"We came out and didn't assert ourselves at the start, and Northland was really leaning on us," Lakeland head coach David Madsen said. "We missed three or four chances there to score on breakaways, but their goalkeeper was able to make a couple saves."

After a few close calls and penalties went against the Muskies in the second half, the Pioneers scored two quick goals and never looked back.

"They got that first goal and scored their second a few minutes after," Madsen said. "The referees were a little hard on us, but this is a good lesson in terms of focusing on the game and seeing things through."

Lakeland will next face UW-Whitewater on Sept. 6 at 5 p.m. in Whitewater.
