Muskies shut out at Aurora 3-0

The Lakeland men's soccer team saw its seven-match unbeaten streak come to an end on Sunday afternoon, dropping a 3-0 decision to Aurora University in a Northern Athletics Conference contest at Aurora, Ill.
After a scoreless first half, the Muskies (7-5-1, 5-2-1 NAC) surrendered a goal less than seven minutes into the second, which Lakeland head coach David Madsen said took a lot out of his team.
"In the second half, Aurora really came out strong," Madsen said. "They scored on their first really good chance. I wasn't disappointed with giving up the goal, but I was disappointed with how our guys reacted to it. We didn't focus on things that were in our control."
The Spartans (11-6, 6-2) added two more in the second half to put away the Muskies.
Freshman goalkeeper Ross Soukup (Plymouth) posted two saves for Lakeland. The Muskies tallied just two shots on goal in the contest.
"We played them really well in the first half even though we had a couple missed chances early to take the lead," Madsen said. "Overall, we played a pretty good match."
The Muskies, who entered the game in third place in the NAC, return to action on Wednesday for a critical league match at fourth-place MSOE in Milwaukee at 7 p.m.
