"We like to keep our plays very simple, but effective," Madsen said. "Kristi struck a really nice ball and got it past the goalkeeper."
The Muskies (4-4 overall, 1-1 Northern Athletics Conference) had several chances to increase the lead throughout the contest, registering 21 total shots. However, the defense held and kept the Ripon offense out of the scoring column despite a strong attack from the Red Hawks (2-7, 1-2 Midwest Conference) late in the second half.
Junior goalkeeper Leslie Oskey (Howards Grove) and sophomore goalkeeper Whitney England (Ashwaubenon) combined for the shut-out. Oskey, a co-captain, notched three saves in the first half, while
"We just didn't play very well, we had a lot of mental struggles and just weren't up for the game," Madsen said. "Our set plays were OK, but overall we got a little lucky. The best thing we can do now is move on and put this game in the 'W' column."
