Muskies fall at Edgewood 4-1

The Lakeland women's soccer team surrendered two goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half en route to a 4-1 loss at Edgewood College on Thursday night in a Northern Athletics Conference showdown in Madison.
"We came out pretty flat in the second half," Lakeland head coach David Madsen said. "It was disappointing because we put together a great effort throughout the entire game, and we played as hard as we had to for the win."
The Muskies (5-5 overall, 2-2 NAC) gave up three unanswered scores after tying the match at 1-1 in the 18th minute. Freshman midfielder Brittney Smit (St. Cloud) beat an Edgewood defender in the middle of the field and pushed it past the goalkeeper unassisted.
Offensively, Lakeland mustered only seven shots, including three on goal, for the game.
"We started off pretty well, but we gave up some early chances offensively," Madsen said. "We were a little picky with our chances even though they weren't flowing. We need to be a little better in key moments with tracking our runs."
Edgewood freshman forward Elaine Gerry registered a hat trick to lead the Eagles (8-2, 4-1).
"Edgewood has really good, talented forwards," Madsen said. "We ended up playing pretty well, but in the end it was just too little, too late."
The Muskies remain on the road this Saturday as they head to Milwaukee to face Wisconsin Lutheran. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
