Muskies finish conference season undefeated
Athletics - posted on 10/25/2008
The Lakeland women's volleyball team completed an undefeated regular season in Northern Athletics Conference play on Saturday night, defeating Rockford 3-0 in Rockford, Ill.
With the 25-21, 25-14, 25-19 win, the Muskies (20-8, 12-0 NAC) continue to dominate the NAC. Lakeland has not lost a league match since 2006.
The Regents (7-14, 5-6) posed a strong challenge, but the Muskies were up to the task.
"We are playing the best volleyball we've played all year," Lakeland head coach Chad Schreiber said. "Rockford gave a really good effort, but we just played extremely well."
Junior outside hitter Brittanie Paulus (Belgium) led the Muskies with 10 kills and 23 digs. Senior right side hitter Heidi Kramer (Green Bay) also had 10 kills to lead the team offensively.
Defensively, junior libero Tonia Strebelinski (Berlin) posted seven digs, but it was her play against the serve that impressed Schreiber the most.
"Tonia was fantastic," Schreiber said. "Her serve receives were critical against a team that served very aggressively."
The Muskies have now completed regular season NAC competition. The team returns to the floor on Friday and Saturday to play at the UW-Whitewater Invitational in Whitewater.
Lakeland will play No. 10 UW-Oshkosh and UW-River Falls on Friday, and St. Ambrose (Iowa) University and UW-Whitewater, the nation's No. 13 team, on Saturday.
