SHEBOYGAN - The No. 28 Lakeland wrestling team won eight of the 10 individual matches in a 38-7 victory over MSOE in a Northern Wrestling Association dual at the Wehr Center.
In the most thrilling match of the evening, sophomore Isaac Roberson (Chicago, Ill.) ended the dual with a tightly-contested 7-6 overtime win over Virgil Pope of MSOE. It was sweet revenge for Roberson, as Pope defeated Roberson earlier in the year in the finals of the MSOE Invite back on Dec. 6.
"It was a really exciting finish with Isaac picking up the win," Lakeland head coach Pete Rogers said. "He kind of fed off the crowd there at the end. He's obviously showing a lot of improvement because [Pope] beat him pretty badly at the MSOE Invite."
Senior Jonas Flok set the tone for Lakeland to open the match. The Egg Harbor native pinned the Raiders' David Swanson at 3:33 in the 157-pound match.
Seniors Kory Thiel (141 pounds) and Everett Wood (197), and junior Adam Sutter (285) also recorded pins for Lakeland (6-7). Sutter, the nation's 10th-ranked wrestler according to d3wrestle.com, moved to 15-2 on the year with the win.
Rogers was also impressed with senior David Copp at 125 pounds. The Oostburg native picked up a 13-6 decision over Sam Deligio of the Raiders. Copp moved to 15-7 on the season with the win.
"David Copp continues to impress me," Rogers said. "This was a big step for David, because he and [Deligio] split a pair of matches last year. It is very difficult mentally to get over that, especially when you wrestle one guy so much."
Junior Jake Frias (Oak Lawn, Ill.) picked up his team-leading 16th victory of the year with a 19-4 win by technical fall over MSOE's Bryce Howard.
The Muskies head to Elmhurst, Ill., on Saturday for the eight-team Al Hanke Invite. Matches are set to begin at 9 a.m.
