Lakeland uses early blitz to take down Rockford

The Lakeland women's soccer team scored four goals in the first six minutes, using the fast start on the way to a 7-1 victory at Rockford in a Northern Athletics Conference contest on Sunday afternoon.
The win is the second straight for the Muskies (2-9 overall, 1-4 NAC), and the team's first league triumph of the season.
"We scored early on, and looked to possess the ball for much of the match after that," Lakeland coach David Madsen said. "We worked in some nice combination plays we've been working on in practice. I was happy to get away with a win."
Freshman forward Hannah Landgraf (Elkhart Lake, Wis.) posted her first and second collegiate goals in the fourth and sixth minutes, respectively, to pace the Lakeland offense.
Five other players tallied one goal for the Muskies, who held Rockford (0-6, 0-4) to just one shot on goal for the entire match. Unfortunately, the one shot got past goalkeeper Whitney England, who was aiming for her first shutout of the season.
"We could have been a little cleaner, and it was disappointing to give up the goal on a free kick that we cleared to one of Rockford's players," Madsen said.
Lakeland recorded its first victory of the 2009 season on Wednesday with a 2-1 non-conference win at Ripon.
The Muskies return to action this Tuesday against Edgewood. Match time is set for 3:30 p.m. at Lakeland.
