SHEBOYGAN - Seven different players scored for the Lakeland men's soccer team in a 9-0 home victory over Finlandia in a non-conference contest on Sunday afternoon.
The Muskies (7-7-1 overall, 5-3 Northern Athletics Conference) were led by sophomores Troy Eichenberger (Monticello, Minn.) and Danny Spatchek (Chilton, Wis.), who tallied two goals apiece. Eichenberger also added an assist.
The victory snapped a two-match losing skid for the Muskies.
"We were trying to do a couple things to create some chances," Lakeland coach David Madsen said. "We got somewhat lazy mentally near the end of the first half, but the guys did a good job keeping the flow of play moving in the second half."
Lakeland, which out-shot the Lions (2-14) 24-4 in the contest, scored twice in the 14th minute on goals from Spatchek and freshman Jake Belknap (Menasha, Wis.) to take an early 2-0 advantage. Belknap's goal was the first of his career.
Senior Ted Cormier (Green Bay, Wis.), sophomore Ben Koepsell (Cedar Grove, Wis.), and freshmen Jacob Kleinschmidt (Neenah, Wis.) and Rodolfo "Tito" Sosa (Kimberly, Wis.) also found the back of the net for Lakeland in the match.
Freshman goalkeeper Alex Piekarski (Menasha, Wis.) posted his second shutout of the year, saving one shot in the contest.
The Muskies return to NAC play this Wednesday at Marian at 7 p.m.
