Muskies pick up overtime win at Wisconsin Lutheran

KC Blahnik scored five of Lakeland's nine points in overtime as the Muskies held on for a 59-58 Northern Athletics Conference win against Wisconsin Lutheran in Milwaukee.
Blahnik (Gladstone, Mich.) and Mary Dennewitz (Chicago, Ill.) each hit 3-pointers on consecutive possessions to give Lakeland a 58-56 lead with 2:15 remaining in the extra session. Katie Kilton's free throw 48 seconds later proved to be the difference as Wisconsin Lutheran was unsuccessful with a 3-pointer as time expired.
Lakeland (14-5, 9-3 NAC) led by as many as eight points late in the second half but went the final 5:56 without hitting a field goal as the Muskie lead evaporated. The Warriors tied the game on a jumper from Rachel Johnson with 24 seconds remaining in the half as Lakeland was unsuccessful on its final possession.
The Muskies played from behind in a majority of the first half and held just one lead for 32 seconds. Chelsea Coenen, back after missing five games due to injury, scored before time expired as the Muskies trailed by one at halftime.
Blahnik turned in another strong all-around performance, leading Lakeland with 24 points on 8-of-16 shooting and 13 rebounds. Dennewitz added 11 points and Coenen came off the bench to score nine.
The Muskies shot just 29.2 percent from the field but connected on 3-of-6 shots in overtime. In addition, two of their three 3-pointers came in the overtime session. They were 18-of-27 from the free throw line as Wisconsin Lutheran got to the line just 12 times on the day.
Whitney Miller led the Warriors (9-9, 9-4) with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Erika Laete and Shavon Dillon each hit double digits with 12 and 11 points, respectively. As a team, Wisconsin Lutheran was successful on 39 percent of its shots for the game.
Lakeland is 3-0 this season in overtime games, having also defeated Carroll and Rockford.
Lakeland returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 4 with a 7 p.m. contest against Maranatha.
