Muskie bats hot as softball opens in Arizona

The Lakeland College softball team picked up a pair of victories in its first day of competition at the 2010 Tucson Invitational Games.

Senior Sara Roberts (Escanaba, Mich.) picked up her first win of the season in a 10-1 victory in six innings against Dickinson.  Senior Chelsea Coenen (Wrightstown, Wis.) led Lakeland at the plate with three hits in the opener, including two triples. Freshman Erin Henk (Hoopeston, Ill.) picked up two hits in her first game, and senior KC Blahnik (Gladstone, Mich.) scored twice out of the lead off spot.

The Muskies defeated Minnesota-Morris in the second game of the day 17-8 after taking an early 13-0 lead. Roberts hit her first home run of the season as senior Cassie Felton (Green Bay, Wis.) was awarded the victory. Blahnik added four more runs and Henk and freshman Heather Haeflinger (Shawano, Wis.) scored three runs each in the decisive win.

Lakeland returns to action with games against Mayville State and Augsburg tomorrow morning beginning at 10 a.m. CST.
