The Lakeland College softball team turned in a pair of strong victories Sunday afternoon, shutting out Concordia Chicago 15-0 before winning 12-7 as the Muskies completed a pair of Northern Athletics Conference doubleheaders in the Chicago area this weekend.

Sara Roberts (Escanaba, Mich.) improved to 13-5 on the season, allowing just two earned runs on the day on 12 hits with just one walk. She shut out the Cougars in game one and gave up only three hits while striking out four in the five inning contest.

Lakeland produced runs in bunches on the day, scoring at least two runs in each of the eight innings they crossed the plate.

Eight of nine starters scored at least once in the game one as the Muskies used three big innings to run away with a 15-0 win, scoring seven runs in the fourth and three runs in each of the third and fifth innings.

Chelsea Coenen, Jenny LaLuzerne and Sara Roberts combined to score seven times and drove in five runs from the two, three and four spots in the lineup.

Jessie Eichner drove in a team-high three runs and Heather Haeflinger led the team with three hits from the bottom of the order.

The Muskies jumped out to an early 3-0 in the first inning of game two and Coenen's second home run of the season to center field in the top of the third helped to increase the advantage to 5-1.

After Concordia Chicago responded with four of its own in the bottom of the third, Lakeland tacked on three runs in the fourth and four in the fifth to take the lead back for the final time.

Coenen led the team with four RBI and three runs scored as she once again combined with LaLuzerne and Roberts to provide a majority of the offensive production. The trio tallied 10 RBI and five runs scored with eight hits and lead-off batter KC Blahnik added three more runs, reaching base four times in the game on a pair of hits and two walks.

"We wanted to come out focused today and were able to jump to an early lead in both games," Lakeland head coach Chad Buchmann said. "We knew that we had to take both games today in order to have a chance at winning the conference championship."

Lakeland continues conference play on Tuesday, April 20, as the Muskies travel to Milwaukee for a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Wisconsin Lutheran
