Muskies run wild at Wisconsin Lutheran

The Lakeland College softball team picked up a pair of Northern Athletic Conference victories on Tuesday, shutting out Wisconsin Lutheran 11-0 in five innings before coming back to beat the Warriors 6-4 in at Warrior Field in Milwaukee.
Sara Roberts (Escanaba, Mich.) pitched her second shutout of the season, improving to 14-5 on the season by holding Wisconsin Lutheran to five hits while recording four strike outs. She has not walked a batter in her last 57.2 innings pitched and the Muskies have scored at least 10 runs in five of her previous six starts.
The Lakeland (19-9, 12-2 NAC) offense pounded out 11 runs on 10 hits and five walks in the opener. Leading 3-0, the Muskies batted around in the top of the fourth to score six runs on four hits, including a Jenny LaLuzerne (Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) triple to score a pair with no outs.
Chelsea Coenen (Wrightstown, Wis.) was a perfect 3-3 at the plate with two triples. Coenen and Brittany Myszka (Edgar, Wis.) each tallied two stolen bases as the Muskies went wild on the base paths, going a perfect 7-7 in stolen base attempts in game one.
"Their catcher was late in throwing the ball, and it worked the first time we stole second so we kept going," Lakeland head coach Chad Buchmann said. "We had the right people on base and it worked out for us."
Trailing 3-1 in the top of the fifth in game two, Roberts hit a 3-run home run, her third of the season, as Lakeland rallied to score five runs in the inning to take a 6-3 lead.
Erin Henk (Hoopeston, Ill.) won her second game of the season after entering in relief in the first inning. She tossed seven innings, allowing two earned runs and seven hits while striking out three. With the tying run at home, she got Katie Timm to pop out to third for the final out of the game.
"Erin pitched great for us tonight," Buchmann said. "It takes her about an inning to get warmed up but then she gets going."
Henk and Coenen each tallied two hits each in the back end of the doubleheader as eight of nine Muskie starters recorded a hit. The top five batters in the Lakeland line up each scored a run and Roberts drove in three runs, the 14th time this season she has driven in multiple runs in a game.
Lakeland travels to DePere for a pair of non-conference games at 3 p.m. on Friday.
