Muskies fall short against Marian
Athletics - posted on 9/15/2010
The Lakeland women's soccer team fell 9-3 in Northern Athletics Conference play against Marian University Wednesday afternoon.
The Sabres got on the board early and scored in the first 10 minutes of the game. After a slow start, the Muskies picked up their tempo, knocked the ball around nicely and created good scoring opportunities.
Lakeland scored just before the half ended when junior Dana Schmidt (Menasha, Wis.) placed the ball right past Marian's keeper. The half ended with Marian on top 5-1.
Despite the score, the Muskies out shot Marian 24-17.
"We created good chances up top, but we couldn't capitalize on our opportunities," said head coach Tony Pierce. "We played a better second half and strung together some nice passes."
Also scoring for the Muskies were juniors Kristina Borts (Milwaukee, Wis.) and Lindsay Rogers (Sheboygan, Wis).
The Muskies (1-6) return to action Sunday, Sept. 19 in a NAC game against Concordia University-Chicago.
