Muskies drop road contest at Beloit
Athletics - posted on 9/23/2010
The Lakeland women's soccer team was unable to rebound after falling behind early, dropping a 8-1 decision to Beloit College Thursday night in Beloit, Wis.
Beloit's Erin Chambers scored for the Buccaneer's in the first two minutes of the game and put the Muskies behind the eight ball.
Freshman goalkeeper Ashley Sarbacker (Middleton, Wis.) left the game early after colliding with one of Beloit's players. Senior Whitney England
(Ashwaubenon, Wis.) stepped into goal without hesitation and posted six saves.
"Whitney really stepped up for us tonight," said head coach Tony Pierce. "She saved us a couple of times and I give her a lot of credit for coming in the goal for us."
Lakeland created chances early in the game but couldn't capitalize on their opportunities to make it a different game.
"If we would have put away one of our early chances, it would have been a completely different game, said Pierce" We started really penetrating the defense, but ultimately couldn't put it away."
Junior Kristina Borts (Milwaukee, Wis) scored in the 88th minute to stop Beloit of a shut out.
Lakeland returns to Northern Athletics Conference play Saturday, Sept. 25 in a road contest against Dominican. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
