The Lakeland College men's soccer game lost its second straight game, 1-0, to St. Mary's on Sunday afternoon in Winona, Minn.

Lakeland battled St. Mary's to a scoreless tie at halftime. In the 79th minute, the Cardinals scored the game's only goal as one of their 15 shots finally found the net on a free kick just outside the box by Ryan Rademacher.

Junior forward Jeremy Hardy (Cooks, Mich.) and junior midfielder Derek Pitterle (Waukesha, Wis.) led the Muskie attack with two shots on goal each.

Lakeland head coach Tony Pierce thought his team played well despite the outcome.

"Everybody played well and we were able to get every guy into the game," Pierce said. "Adam Benson (Anoka, Minn.) entered in the second half and seemed to rejuvenate and energize our guys. We played with a lot of intensity and caused several problems for them in the second half. We had plenty of chances, we just couldn't capitalize. The guys played very well and it's unfortunate that we felt short."

Lakeland plays its home opener on Wednesday, Sept. 8, when they host Ripon College at 4:30 p.m.
