Athletics - posted on 9/19/2010
The Lakeland men's soccer team played 110 minutes and came out with a 1-1 tie against Concordia University-Chicago in Northern Athletics Conference play Sunday afternoon in River Forest, Ill.
Concordia-Chicago got on the board first and scored in the 53rd minute of the second half. Chris Jahns scored for the Cougars to put them on top 1-0.
Just six minutes later, the Muskies battled back when junior Adam Benson (Anoka, Minn,), assisted by junior Jeremy Hardy (Cooks, Mich.), drilled a goal right past the Cougars goalkeeper.
Head coach Tony Pierce was pleased with the team's effort, but they just came up a little short.
"We gave up the first goal early in the second half and immediately after the guys battled back and scored," said Pierce. "It was a good effort by both teams, we just came up a little short."
Lakeland continues play Monday, Sept. 20 in a non-conference game against St. Norbert's. Start time is 4:30 p.m. at Muskie Field.
