Athletics - posted on 10/2/2010

The Lakeland College men's soccer team tied Rockford College, 0-0, in a Northern Athletics Conference game on Saturday at Muskie Field.

The Muskies (0-7-4, 0-1-4) dominated the game with 28 shots, 13 on goal, while Rockford only managed 12 shots, seven on goal. The Regents' goalkeeper, Sam Wangelin, never broke stopping 13 shots.

"We created a ton of chances today," said Lakeland head coach Tony Pierce. "The shot was either off a bit or we couldn't get it off cleanly. We played really well and kept Rockford under pressure all afternoon, we just couldn't put them away."

Lakeland junior Bobby Rublee (Sheboygan, Wis.) came close to scoring several times, finishing with three shots, one on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Alex Piekarski (Menasha, Wis.) was solid in goal, stopping seven shots.

The Muskies will look for their first victory when they return to action on Thursday, Oct. 7, at home against Maranatha Baptist at 4 p.m.
