SHEBOYGAN - The Lakeland men's volleyball team opened its 2010 campaign with a decisive 25-9, 25-15, 25-20 victory over UW-Stevens Point in a Wisconsin Volleyball Conference contest Wednesday at Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.
The Muskies (1-0 overall, 1-0 WVC) jumped out to quick leads in the first and second sets and didn't look back.
"We had good rhythm tonight and experimented with a few different line-ups," Lakeland coach Chad Schreiber said. "We also tried a couple new setters and were able to get some of our new guys some playing time."
Lakeland, which finished tied for third in the nation last season, was led by three-time All-American Joe Julkowski (Carol Stream, Ill.), who had six kills and 11 assists. Junior Chris Kubacki (Vernon Hills, Ill.) added 13 assists.
Sophomore Andrew Cheever (Milwaukee, Wis.) led the defense with 10 digs.
The Muskies host the WVC Crossovers this Sunday, Jan. 31. Match times are TBA.
