Lakeland rolls over Marquette on Senior Night

SHEBOYGAN - The No. 9 Lakeland men's volleyball team shook off a slow start to defeat No. 20 Marquette 25-19, 25-18, 25-20 in a Wisconsin Volleyball Conference match on Thursday night at Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.

The Muskies (17-4 overall, 7-2 WVC) fell behind 9-7 in the first set, prompting a timeout by coach Chad Schreiber.

After going back and forth for several points, Lakeland took the lead and extended it to 21-15, eventually trading points to take the opening frame.

The Muskies jumped out to 17-12 and 12-4 advantages in the second and third sets, respectively, to take the Golden Eagles (10-10, 4-6) out of the match.

Ouside hitter Joe Julkowski (Carol Stream, Ill.) led the Lakeland attack with 15 kills, while sophomore Mitch Wiskirchen (Schaumburg, Ill.) and junior Chris Kubacki (Vernon Hills, Ill.) combined for 35 assists.

Sophomore libero Andrew Cheever (Milwaukee, Wis.) led the Muskies with nine digs, while middle hitters Avdo Omerbegovic (Chicago, Ill.) and Beau Bradshaw (Oak Lawn, Ill.) finished with three blocks apiece.

Prior to the match, seniors Luke Herriges (Campbellsport, Wis.), Dan Judkins (Kaukauna, Wis.), Perry Ringfelt (Elwood, Ill.) and Tyler Thiesfeldt (Green Bay, Wis.) were recognized for their contributions to the program in a short ceremony led by Schreiber.

Lakeland hosts a Midwest 10 Playdate this Saturday at the Wehr Center. The Muskies will take on Ball State (9 a.m.) and Notre Dame (11 a.m.) before the teams will be seeded into bracket play.
