Brittany Adcox demonstrated why she's one of the top pitchers in the Northern Athletics Conference Friday afternoon as the Lakeland College softball team suffered a 2-0 defeat to Benedictine in the 2010 NAC Softball Tournament in Milwaukee.

Adcox, selected the 2010 NAC Pitcher of the Year, limited the Lakeland offense to two hits and no walks while striking out 10.

Chelsea Coenen and Jenny LaLuzerne were the lone Muskies to reach base on the afternoon, with Coenen singling through the right side and LaLuzerne lining a pitch up the middle into center field in the seventh inning with two outs.

Sara Roberts threw a solid game for Lakeland, tossing six innings and allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits with no walks issued.

Benedictine took a quick 1-0 lead as Laura Christensen singled up the middle to lead off the bottom of the first inning. She advanced to second on a ground out to first and after a fly out to right, scored with two outs as Cassie Cappetto singled through the right side.

The Eagles added a second run in the top of the six as pinch runner Ashley Parrott scored from first with two outs after stealing second and a pair of errors at second and third allowed her to reach home.

Lakeland (25-17) returns to tournament play on Saturday around 11 a.m. in an elimination game against Dominican. The game was previously scheduled for 3 p.m. this afternoon but was rescheduled due to persistent rain showers earlier today. Dominican dropped a tightly contested 7-6 decision on Thursday against Marian.
