Homers propel softball past Concordia Wisconsin in NAC Tournament

Sophomore Leah Sheahan and senior KC Blahnik  each hit home runs Thursday afternoon as the Lakeland College softball team fought back from an early 3-0 deficit to knock off Concordia Wisconsin 11-5 in the first game of the 2010 Northern Athletics Conference on the campus of Alverno College in Milwaukee.

Sheahan's shot down the left field line drove in Chelsea Coenen and Jenny LaLuzerne to give the Muskies their first lead of the game at 4-3.

Blahnik drilled a pitch to right center with two outs to key a four run Lakeland inning that pushed the Muskies ahead 8-4.

Sheahan led all batters with five RBI on the day, hitting 2-4 at the plate and scoring once. Coenen tallied three hits, scoring three times while driving in two in the third spot of the line up. Heather Haeflinger continued a strong second half of the season with two hits and two walks to reach base in all four plate appearances. She scored three times and stole her 18th base of the season.

Sara Roberts improved to 17-6 on the season after tossing six innings in relief. She allowed just one run on six hits and walked none.

Lakeland advances to play NAC regular season champion Benedictine tomorrow at 9 a.m. The Eagles defeated Lakeland in both prior meetings this season, knocking off the Muskies 2-1 and 8-4.
