AURORA, Ill. - Junior Eric Cepa scored 17 points and grabbed three rebounds to lead the Lakeland College women's basketball team to a 63-53 win over Aurora University in the Northern Athletics Conference Challenge Game Saturday afternoon in Aurora, Ill.
The Muskies (10-15, 6-12 NAC) got off to a slow start and found itself down by seven points in the first five minutes of play. Lakeland then went on to a 24-7 run to take a 14 point lead at half.
In the second half, Lakeland went up by as many as 27 points to claim a victory in its final game of the season. The Spartans made a late comeback to cut the lead to 10, but it wasn't enough as Lakeland proved too much and prevailed.
In their last game as Muskies, seniors Mary Dennewitz and Chelsea Coenen scored 12 and seven points, respectively. Dennewitz ended the game with four rebounds while Coenen added three.
Lakeland shot cold from the field, posting 30.2 percent while recording 37.5 percent from behind the arc. The Muskies held Aurora to 30 percent from the field and a mere 57.1 percent from the charity stripe.
Junior Becca Tilleman scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds while sophomore Becky Mayo added six points.
The Muskies end the season on a high note and look forward to competing next season.
