Muskies battle, fall short against No. 15 UW-Stevens Point

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - A veteran of grapplers from the No. 15 University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point proved their experience on the wrestling mat as the Muskies fell to the Pointers 33-9 at the Wehr Center Field House Wednesday night.
The dual started out positive for Lakeland as sophomore Chris Weber (Mishicot, Wis.) got the 6-5 decision over Colter Nyenhuhis at 184. Lakeland was up 3-0, but saw their lead diminish as the night prevailed.
Junior Robbie Frias (Oak Lawn, Ill.) got the upper-hand this time against familiar foe Shane Sweeney with a 6-5 decision. On Nov. 13, Sweeney had the 3-2 decision over Frias at the Pointer Open in Stevens Point, Wis.
Also earning a victory for Lakeland was freshman Grant Franson (Lindenhurst, Ill.). Franson had a 12-8 decision over Brad Kuehn and continues to improve daily.
Head coach Mike DeRoehn was extremely pleased and proud of the team's efforts.
"I am proud of the guy's attitude and their toughness that they displayed tonight," said DeRoehn. "Stevens Point is a quality team, but we battled and gave them a tough match. We continued to fight and the guys gave their best effort."
Sophomore Ryan Renon (Wrightstown, Wis.) faced stiff competition against nationally-ranked Jordan Schulte and held his own. Schulte had the 5-2 decision in one of the night's best matchups.
Lakeland returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 4 at the Milwaukee School of Engineering Invite in Milwaukee, Wis. The invite starts at 9:30 a.m.
