Grapplers fall short to Elmhurst

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Lakeland College wrestling team lost 37-6 in a dual meet against Elmhurst College Wednesday night in Elmhurst, Ill.

Brandon Garcia and Ryan Renon were the lone match winners of the night at 157 and 165, respectively.

Garcia, a sophomore from Adell, Wis., had the 5-3 overtime decision over Tom Jung. Renon, a sophomore from Wrightstown, Wis., earned an 8-7 decision over Elmhurst's Yousef Al-Ghoul.

Head coach Mike DeRoehn was frustrated in the team's showing.

"It was a disappointing night as we didn't take advantage of the opportunity to display what we're capable of," said DeRoehn. "We wrestled flat and were consistently out of our stance which makes it hard to compete to our potential.  On the bright side, Brandon Garcia and Ryan Renon found a way to win and Zach Wetzel wrestled with a lot of hustle, giving one hundred percent effort for seven minutes, which is really all we ask of the guys."

For the dual, Elmhurst pinned the Muskies three times, while earning two major decisions and one technical fall.

Lakeland returns to action as they travel to Dubuque, Iowa to compete in the Dubuque Duals on Saturday, Dec. 11.
