MADISON, Wis. - The Lakeland College softball team swept Edgewood College in the team's Northern Athletics Conference opener, 6-4 and 5-4, Saturday afternoon at Ceniti Park in Madison, Wis.

After two weeks without playing on the dirt, the Muskies (2-0, 2-10) earned two much needed wins and gained confidence heading further into play.

In game one, Lakeland went down 4-0 to the Eagles in the first inning, but scored in the second, fourth and sixth innings to get the come-behind win.

Lakeland got six runs on six hits without committing a single error.

Freshman Sam Janc (Worth, Ill.) led the Muskies with a solid performance at the plate going 1-for-2 including hitting a home run in the second inning.

Sophomore McKenna Wenzel (Brillion, Wis.) also posted a fantastic performance from the plate going 2-for-3 and homering in the sixth inning. She ended the day with two RBIs and four hits.

Sophomore pitcher Erin Henk (Hoopeston, Ill.) pitched seven innings and earned her first win of the season. Henk recorded three strikeouts while only giving up seven hits and one walk.

Head coach Chad Buchmann was excited to see the team back in action.

"We got two important conference wins today," said Buchmann. "We haven't seen any action in two weeks and it's nice to be 2-0 in the NAC. The team showed up and played well. We gain a lot of confidence with these two wins, especially on the road."

In game two, the Muskies held onto a 5-4 lead in the seventh inning to secure the sweep. Lakeland recorded five runs on 10 hits while committing no errors once again.

Freshman pitcher Sam Janc earned her first collegiate win and pitched all seven innings while proving her hitting abilities from the plate. Janc went 2-for-4 with an assist.

Freshman Chelsea Gile (Grand Junction, Mich.) also recorded a solid performance at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Sophomore Heather Haeflinger (Shawano, Wis.) went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a walk. Freshman Brittany Jurek (Gladstone, Mich.) went 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Buchmann is now just three wins away from his 200th career win.
