Lakeland topples UW-Stout

Athletics - posted on 2/12/2011

The Lakeland College men's volleyball team got another Wisconsin Volleyball Conference victory on Saturday, a 3-2 (25-18 27-25 21-25 22-25 15-8) win over UW-Stout.

The Muskies (9-5, 6-2 WVC) were not excited about their win, as their play was not championship caliber.

"We made our win feel like a loss," said Lakeland head coach Chad Schreiber. "We lost the third game on a 17-3 Stout run. We need to close out our matches better if we expect to beat championship teams."

Lakeland, who is an honorable mention in the Feb. 4, National Collegiate Volleyball Federation poll, was led by sophomore Dane Maier (Middleton, Wis.), who had 24 kills. On defense, Freshman Rafal Kokoszka (Palos Heights, Ill.), had a team high eight blocks and junior Andrew Cheever (Milwaukee, Wis.) led the team with 13 digs.

The Muskies return to action Tuesday, Feb. 15, as they travel to Oshkosh, Wis., to face WVC rival, UW-Oshkosh. The match begins at 8 p.m.
