Muskies fall to Eagles

Athletics - posted on 3/11/2011

The Lakeland College men's volleyball team suffered its second consecutive loss, a 3-2 (23-25, 20-25, 25-14, 25-21, 15-9) setback against WVC foe UW-La Crosse.

The Muskies (12-13, 6-5 WVC) came out strong but couldn't build any momentum to maintain a strong rhythm from game to game.

"We came out and did so many good things but never created momentum," said Lakeland head coach Chad Schreiber. "One serving run in each of the last 3 games cost us. It's hard to fight the disappointment when that's been the story all year. There have been very few times we've been able to put a run together. On one hand it's disappointing we can't build on solid play. On the other it's amazing we've played everyone close all year without ever putting together momentum. We did try another different line-up tonight so that has something to do with it. Hopefully it will bode well for later that we've worked on so many different combinations."

Sophomore Dane Maier (Middleton, Wis.) led the Muskies offense with 20 kills, while Chris Kubacki (Vernon Hills, Ill.) added 43 assists.

On defense junior libero Andrew Cheever (Milwaukee, Wis.) had 15 digs and the team had a total 21 blocks.

The Muskies return to action Thursday, March 24, as they host WVC foe Marquette University. The match begins at 8 p.m.
