Muskies drop tough conference match

Athletics - posted on 2/15/2011

The Lakeland College men's volleyball team suffered a setback Tuesday night at fourth-ranked UW-Oshkosh, 3-0 (28-30, 19-25, 17-25).

The Muskies (9-6, 6-3 WVC) will look to build on a loss to a tough team and gain momentum as they try and make a run for another national championship.

"The difference in the match was the points they were able to earn off of blocking and serving," said Lakeland head coach Chad Schreiber. "Despite a few lapses, our serve receive was otherwise very good. I thought this was a strong enough showing to build off of. We now need some individuals to step up and improve their game."

Lakeland, who is an honorable mention in the Feb. 4, National Collegiate Volleyball Federation poll, was led offensively by freshman Brett Kaczmarek (Kenosha, Wis.) and sophomore Dane Maier (Middleton, Wis.) who had ten kills each. Senior setter Chris Kubacki (Vernon Hills, Ill.) had a team-high 26 assists.

The Muskies return to action Sunday, Feb. 20, as they host back-to-back WVC matches against UW-Platteville and UW-La Crosse. The first match, against UW-Platteville, begins at 11 a.m.
