The Lakeland College baseball team earned a split in their final double-header of the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Fla. against Millikin University.
The Muskies (5-2) won game one by a score of 11-0, their third consecutive shutout. In game two, the bats went quiet and Lakeland suffered a 2-1 setback, snapping a four game winning streak.
In game one, the bats came to life again for Lakeland as they were able to score in four of the five innings they played. After scoring single runs in the first and second innings, the Muskies were able to break the game open with three runs on three hits in the third to increase their lead to 5-0.
Senior right-hander Mike Ruzek (Manitowoc, Wis.) helped himself at the plate with an RBI double that drove in senior right fielder Andrew "woody" Schartner (Sturgeon Bay, Wis.). Two batters later, freshman Garrett Vincetich-Morris (Janesville, Wis.) delivered with a two RBI single, scoring Ruzek and senior catcher David Novak (Algoma, Wis.).
The Muskies added two more runs in the fourth, before putting the game away in the bottom of the sixth as they scored four runs on five hits, to increase their lead to 11-0.
Ruzek again started the scoring in the sixth, driving in Novak with another RBI double. Junior Erik Kozey (Medford, Wis.) would drive in Ruzek with an RBI single and would come around to score four batters later when sophomore
Andy Chitwood (Muscoda, Wis.) was hit by a pitch. Freshman Ryan Boettcher (Bonduel, Wis.) would drive in senior center fielder Jeremy Meier (Sauk Prairie, Wis.) with an RBI single.
Ruzek did it all on Friday morning, pitching seven scoreless innings, allowing four hits, while striking out eight and walking none. Meanwhile, at the plate, Ruzek went 4-4 with three RBI's and two runs scored.
Also chipping in with the bat were Schartner and Novak who went 3-5 and 1-3 respectively. Schartner scored all three times he was on base while Novak had two RBI's and two runs scored.

In game two, Lakeland couldn't find an answer for Millikin right-hander, Josh Schultz. The Muskies were only able to muster four hits over seven innings.
The Muskies lone run came in the fifth inning as Meier was able to score on an RBI ground out by Chitwood. Boettcher would double to left field but would be stranded as the Muskies couldn't get the big hit when they needed it.
Senior right-hander Matt Katzman (Sauk Prairie, Wis.) did his best to keep the Muskies in the game, throwing six innings, allowing two runs on four hits while walking three and striking out eight.
