Muskies swept by Regents

ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Lakeland College softball team dropped two Northern Athletics Conference games to Rockford College, 10-0 and 6-1, respectively, Sunday afternoon at the Smith Athletic Field in Rockford, Ill.

The Muskies' (4-14, 4-4) bats went quiet at Smith Field as Lakeland only scored one run on seven hits in the NAC doubleheader. Lakeland didn't have an offensive or defensive answer for the Regents who scored 16 runs on 19 hits.

In game one, sophomore Jenny LaLuzerne (Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) hit a triple to left field in the first inning for what looked like a promising start, but she was left on base as Lakeland struggled to score.

Junior Leah Sheahan (Salem, Wis.) and sophomore Heather Haeflinger (Shawano, Wis.) each went 1-for-2 from the plate.

In game two the Muskies hit better, but flied out almost every time and didn't score until the top of the seventh inning.

Head coach Chad Buchmann was disappointed with the team's play.

"Our defensive was horrible in the first game," said Buchmann. "We struggled to get the offense going and had too many fly balls in the second game."

Sheahan went 1-for-3 with a run scored. Sophomore Erin Henk (Hoopeston, Ill.) also went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

The Muskies return to action on Tuesday, April 12, as they host St. Norbert in a nonconference doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. at Muskie Field.
