The Lakeland College men's volleyball team got a much needed victory as they defeated University of Illinois-Chicago 2-1 (25-27, 25-22, 15-7) on Saturday.

The Muskies (10-6) were able to settle in and find a good rhythm in their first match at the Hoosier-Illini Classic.

"We came out playing well, but gave up a lead late in the first game," said Lakeland head coach Chad Schreiber. "I was happy with how we settled in and didn't panic."

Lakeland, who is an honorable mention in the Feb. 4, National Collegiate Volleyball Federation poll, was led offensively by sophomore Dane Maier (Middleton, Wis.) who had 13 kills while senior Chris Kubacki (Vernon Hills, Ill.) led the team with 28 assists.

The Muskies return to action Wednesday, March 2, as they travel to Whitewater, Wis. to face WVC foe UW-Whitewater. The match is set for 8 p.m.
